Holistic Physiotherapy
Holistic Physiotherapy, created by Emily Korn, is a unique service considering the whole person when treating pain, inflammation, stiffness and injury to afford the best possible patient goals and outcomes.
Our holistic approach to physiotherapy recognises that pain is not always directly related to the amount of physical damage. In fact, so many other factors influence the pain experience, including biological factors, such as structure and function of all body systems, psychological factors such as emotions, coping styles and limiting beliefs and social factors such as sleep and hydration.
This is why at Emme House, we not only treat the site of pain, in relation to muscles, bones and tissues as per a conventional physiotherapist, but also, all factors and body systems, including nervous, lymphatic and circulatory.
Holistic Physiotherapy, offered both in person and online involves a comprehensive evidence-based assessment, individualised hands-on treatment, tailored home exercises, detailed education and lifestyle modifications. We provide ongoing structured support through follow up consultations and out of hours email correspondence.
Emme House’s services are Private Health Fund Rebateable. We also accept Enhanced Primary Care (EPC).
Your body has an innate desire to heal and be well given the right environment where all body systems are working harmoniously with peak capacity. Our holistic approach does so by:
1) Shifting the nervous system out of a fight, flight, freeze stress state into a more calm, anti-inflammatory and healing state. We do this using gentle touch and vibration to stimulate the vagus nerve and teach you at home nervous system calming activities such as breathing practices, somatic therapies and grounding.
2) Rewiring the brain to reduce the overactivation of pain, threat and emotional circuits that are keeping you in pain, and increasing the underactivation of rational, decision making, planning and emotional regulation brain circuits to accelerate healing. We do this by providing pain neurophysiology education, debunking and reframing limiting beliefs and encouraging positive mindset through a number of practices specific to your needs.
2) Stimulating the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins, bacteria, swelling and inflammation from the body and to mobilise the immune system to fight virus and infection. We do this using hands-on techniques but also empower to take care of your own lymphatic system at home with daily resets, hydration and breathing practices.
3) Supporting the circulatory system, via adequate blood flow, to transport oxygen and nutrients to your cells to create energy for healing and function. We do this through soft tissue massage and teach you at home breathing techniques.
4) Ensuring optimal organ mobility. We release and mobilise your organs and use abdominal and fascial massage.
5) Facilitating spinal and rib cage mobility and positioning (posture) and correcting weaknesses and asymmetries with manual therapy and individualised exercise prescription.
